Tristram Powell and William Feaver
Bill (right), shows Tristram an original work from the Art Club

Our first film night featured a showing of a short film made by Tristram Powell in 1972 about the Ashington Miners Art Club which was followed by a discussion between Tristram and William Feaver, who was also involved in the making of the film. Feaver, senior art critic at the Observer for many years, also wrote a book on the subject called The Pitmen Painters which inspired Lee Hall's play of the same name.

There was a full studio and great atmosphere for this unique event. We hope to have more in the future.

Saturday saw the final session in our two part course on the techniques of wood engraving run but master engraver Peter Smith. The course was fully attended and some great work was produced. We are now hoping to have a followup course sometime later in the year.

"It's a highly skilled and very delicate process", said student Christine Bibby, "but really rewarding, and, thanks to Peter, we all ended up achieving more than we expected. It's something I will definitely continue."

"... two fab Saturdays. What lovely people."

I will be talking about my work with artists Sheila Vollmer and Tim Cousins this Friday 26 February at 5.30pm. At APT studios in Deptford- if you live that way it would be great to see you.
