Very best wishes from SLAUGHTERHAUS

Hi Visitor,
Here's to 2021 from all of us at SLAUGHTERHAUS!
2020 has been a year of looking after our safety, supporting each other and survival - and we are very pleased to say that we are still here!
SUPPORT has been a two-way flow. Our members have never stinted in their support for us. But they’ve also told us they’ve felt supported by the studio. Our working printmakers have always shared their experience and offered help and up-skilling to less experienced printmakers whenever needed, and this has continued throughout the year.
We’ve also been working with the SW9 Youth Group, a group of children and young people at Stockwell Park Community Centre- delivering (remotely so far) a programme of inspiring and creative art workshops. More to come in 2021.
Our survival has been assisted by funding from Lambeth Council’s emergency COVID fund. The fund has allowed us to employ a part-time administrator, who will be helping us coordinate our new range of courses in 2021 as well as to manage our social media (have you checked us out on Instagram as yet?). Hopefully, our new relationship with the Council will open up interesting possibilities next year.
The studio has been a refuge from the year, and a really important place of calm. This year has flagged up for many of us the importance of having a creative outlet- and we have helped spread that possibility with our online classes.
And as we emerge into what we hope will be a brighter 2021, we have a whole range of courses planned, including our new on-line course, the Saturday Print Club which will run on Saturday mornings for 5 weeks at a time, suggesting simple printmaking techniques and a wealth of ideas for getting creative at home. Since the news last weekend of Tier 4 restrictions this looks like this will be even more necessary and we have a number of other short on-line classes planned as well.
We do hope though, that physical classes will be possible again, and have programmed in- studio classes from February onwards, with the proviso that we will postpone and move them later in the year if necessary. Please sign up if you see something you are interested in. There are specialist classes planned for Thursday evenings, our Tuesday Evening Workshops and short Taster courses planned to May so far. Keep an eye on the website for all updates, new courses and further information.
And we can still send over a gift voucher if you are looking for last minute present ideas!
SAFETY has been at the heart of all our programmes this year. We dramatically reduced the number of people allowed in the studio at any one time to ensure robust social distancing and everyone is wearing a mask. We have ensured that all our members or guests felt reassured that our studio was a totally safe zone. We comply with HSE Covid- safety guidelines. And, so far, it’s paid off. Going forwards, all in-studio classes will have very small maximum numbers and be set up so that everyone has their own designated work space, tools and materials. We hope that you will feel confident to come to our classes in the New Year.
Also, continuing from January, we are continuing our on-line Artists' Talks- I think I am supposed to be the first one at the end of January! More news on those in the next newsletter- everyone welcome.
We really hope to see you soon, virtually or in person.
With very best wishes
Michelle and the SLAUGHTERHAUS team
